Pimasartan potassium is used to treat essential hypertension and is utilized as an additional treatment option when blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. This medication effectively lowers blood pressure, aiding in the management of hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended dosage of this medication is 1 tablet once daily, taken with water without regard to meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). For patients with severe kidney impairment, treatment should be initiated with pimasartan 30 mg.

Precautions

This medication poses significant risk of serious harm or death to the fetus or newborn if taken during the second and third trimester of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients allergic to this drug's active ingredients or similar substances, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients with moderate to severe liver impairment, patients with bile duct obstruction, certain diabetes patients with severely reduced kidney function, lactose intolerant patients, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and patients in shock should not use this drug. Patients with reduced blood volume or sodium, patients with impaired kidney function, patients with renovascular hypertension, patients with aortic or mitral stenosis or heart disease, patients with primary aldosteronism, patients with severe hypotension, elderly patients, and patients with a history of allergy to specific dyes contained in this medication should use it cautiously. While taking this medication, side effects such as dizziness, headache, facial swelling, urinary disorder, insomnia, and flushing may occur, and in rare cases, severe kidney problems or blood pressure drops may manifest. It is important to be aware of hypotension symptoms, especially in patients taking large amounts of diuretics or with restricted salt intake, as blood pressure may drop too low or electrolyte imbalances may occur. This drug may interact with other antihypertensives, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, so any other medications being taken should be disclosed. In case of pregnancy or breastfeeding, this drug can be harmful to the fetus or baby, and consultation with a physician is necessary. Safety for children and adolescents under 18 years old has not been established. Generally, dosage adjustments are not necessary for the elderly, but caution is required as they may be more sensitive to the medication depending on the individual. It is safest not to use this medication in patients with moderate to severe liver impairment. In case of overdose, symptoms may include hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, and in severe cases, shock, requiring immediate medical help.
