Improvement of essential hypertension
Essential hypertension is a critical condition for lowering blood pressure to normal levels, which protects vascular and cardiac health. This medication is used to effectively control blood pressure in essential hypertension to prevent cardiovascular complications.
The recommended initial dose is 10mg once daily, administered regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled at this dose, it may be increased to 20mg once daily. If necessary, the dose can be increased up to a maximum of 40mg once daily. The antihypertensive effect appears within 2 weeks of starting treatment, and maximum effect is observed approximately after 8 weeks. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, it may be used in combination with thiazide diuretics. Elderly patients (
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.
This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so if pregnancy is confirmed, you should discontinue use immediately. It should not be used by patients who have allergies to any of the components of this medication, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients on renal dialysis, those with severe liver impairment, patients with biliary obstruction, and individuals with certain genetic lactose intolerance. Patients who have decreased blood volume or sodium deficiency may experience hypotension, so caution is needed, and patients with impaired renal function should have their renal function and serum electrolyte levels monitored regularly. Particularly in patients with severe heart failure, renal artery stenosis, those at risk for hyperkalemia, or patients with aortic or mitral stenosis, it should be used with caution, as blood pressure can drop rapidly, and activities like driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. During the use of this medication, mild side effects such as dizziness, headache, indigestion, muscle pain, and rash may occur, and rarely, angioedema or liver function abnormalities may manifest; if unusual symptoms persist, consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary. If chronic diarrhea or severe abdominal pain occurs, it may indicate a possibility of chronic malabsorption syndrome similar to intestinal diseases caused by this medication, and use should be discontinued and the doctor consulted. When taken with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, lithium, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the risk of side effects may increase due to interactions, so patients should inform their healthcare provider of any other medications being used. Use of this medication during pregnancy can cause severe side effects for the fetus, so if pregnancy is suspected, it should be discontinued immediately and a healthcare professional consulted. Breastfeeding women should consider that this medication may be partially transmitted through breast milk and should either discontinue breastfeeding or stop taking the medication to prevent potential adverse reactions in infants. Safety and efficacy in children have not yet been adequately established, so it should be used cautiously in pediatric patients. Elderly patients may experience increased drug concentrations, requiring caution during use. In case of overdose, hypotension or arrhythmias may occur; seek medical attention immediately if symptoms manifest. This medication has been reported to have a low risk of carcinogenicity or genotoxicity even with long-term use, but if unusual symptoms arise, it is advisable to consult an expert.
