This medication is used to prevent and treat vitamin D deficiency in elderly, adolescents, and adults with a deficiency of vitamin D.

How it is given

Adult administration

200,000 IU of cholecalciferol is administered via intramuscular injection. Elderly patients receive 100,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection. Annual dosing should not exceed 600,000 IU.

Child administration

Adolescents are administered 200,000 IU of cholecalciferol via intramuscular injection.

Precautions

This medication contains vitamin D, so when used together with vitamin D fortified foods or other vitamin D treatments, total vitamin D intake must be carefully considered. If the calcium level in the blood becomes too high, or if the amount of calcium excreted in urine exceeds certain standards, the use of this medication should be discontinued. If calcium intake is high, regular checks of calcium levels in blood and urine should be conducted to monitor for abnormalities. Patients with allergies to this drug, hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, calcium stones, or kidney problems should not use it. This medication is also not administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, immobile patients, or those with specific diseases. While using this medication, various side effects such as headache, fatigue, muscle pain, digestive disorders, dehydration, high blood pressure, and kidney problems may occur, so symptoms should be monitored closely. Inflammation or reactions may occur at the injection site, so it is advisable to regularly check the injection area. Blood levels of vitamin D and parathyroid hormone should be regularly tested to maintain appropriate dosages, especially in patients with impaired kidney function who should be carefully managed. This medication may interact with certain drugs; therefore, patients taking anticonvulsants, diuretics, antacids, or anticoagulants should consult their healthcare provider. In case of overdose, immediately discontinue use and reduce calcium intake while ensuring adequate hydration and implementing measures to promote diuresis. This medication should be used quickly after opening, and any remaining medication should be discarded. Store in a sealed container to protect from air and light at a cool temperature between 1 to 25 degrees Celsius to maintain the drug's effectiveness for a longer period.

This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent exposure to air and light, ideally at a cool temperature between 1 to 25 degrees Celsius. Storing in this way helps maintain the drug's effectiveness for a longer duration.
