Treatment of inflammatory diseases of the external eye and anterior segment (blepharitis, conjunctivitis, etc.)
This medication is used for various inflammatory diseases occurring around the eye and the anterior segment, such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, scleritis, episcleritis, iritis, and associated iridocyclitis and uveitis, as well as inflammation that may occur post-surgery. It effectively alleviates inflammation caused by these diseases and helps improve symptoms.
Instill 1 to 2 drops at a time, 2 to 4 times a day. Adjust as appropriate based on symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients with viral keratitis or conjunctivitis, fungal eye diseases, or mycobacterial infections. It should also not be administered to patients with chronic blepharitis or those who have shown allergic reactions to this medication. It is generally not used in patients with damaged corneal epithelium or corneal ulcers, or in patients with tuberculous or purulent eye diseases; however, it must be used with great caution in exceptional cases where necessary. Special caution is also required for patients with glaucoma and for infants under 2 years of age. Long-term use may increase intraocular pressure leading to glaucoma or optic nerve damage, thus regular intraocular pressure monitoring is required. Additionally, corneal herpes, fungal infections, and Pseudomonas infections may occur, and if any unusual symptoms appear, immediate treatment is necessary. Care must be taken to avoid corneal perforation when used in corneal ulcers or trauma. Long-term use may increase the risk of cataracts or secondary infections. If acute purulent conunctivitis is present, this medication may mask symptoms or worsen the condition. Temporary blurring of vision may occur upon instillation, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. Contact lens wearers should remove the lenses before applying the drops and should wait at least 30 minutes before re-inserting them after application. If inflammation or pain persists or worsens for more than 48 hours, use should be discontinued and a doctor consulted. In particular, patients infected with or at risk of infection from chickenpox or measles should check their medical history and vaccination status before using this medication and take care to prevent infection. Caution is required for children or patients taking CYP3A4 inhibitors, as systemic side effects may occur after using this medication. The risk of systemic side effects may increase when using this medication with CYP3A4 inhibitors; therefore, it should be used strictly under a doctor's direction. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women are advised not to use this medication for extended periods or frequently, and lactating women should avoid administering it or discontinue breastfeeding. Safety in infants and children has not been established, so care should be exercised in use. Elderly patients require special caution as their physiological functions are reduced. This medication is an eye drop intended for use in the eyes only; hence, care should be taken to prevent the tip of the container from coming into direct contact with the eye and it should be shaken well before use. Furthermore, it should not be shared with others and precautions should be taken to prevent contamination. When storing, keep it in an airtight container in a cool place away from direct sunlight, and do not transfer it to other containers.
