Adult dose

This medication is generally taken 2 times a day with food, with gradual dose increases to minimize gastrointestinal side effects caused by metformin. 1. For patients not previously treated with metformin: Take this medication 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice daily, and it can be increased to 1 tablet of 50/1000 mg, twice daily. 2. Precautions

This medication contains both sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Firstly, severe allergic reactions may occur when taking this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, there is a risk of pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal pain occurs after taking this medication, visit a hospital immediately. Due to the metformin component, there is a rare risk for lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic disturbance, so if symptoms such as difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain appear, stop taking the medication immediately and inform medical personnel. This medication should not be used in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, severe infections, heart failure, or in pregnant or breastfeeding women. If undergoing surgery or receiving diagnostic tests that use contrast agents, temporarily discontinue use and resume only after renal function has been confirmed as normal. This medication lowers blood sugar levels, so caution is required in cases of irregular meal intake or vigorous exercise as hypoglycemia may occur. Moreover, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase when taken with other blood glucose-lowering agents or alcohol, thus it is necessary to consult with a doctor for medication adjustments. Regular monitoring of renal function, blood tests, and vitamin B12 levels is necessary during the course of treatment, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. Finally, excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided while taking this medication, and a full understanding of the potential benefits and risks of the medication should be obtained before usage.
