Precautions

This medication contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. First, a severe allergic reaction may occur during the use of this medication, so if symptoms such as skin rash, itching, or difficulty breathing appear, you should immediately stop taking it and consult a doctor. Additionally, this medication may lead to pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreas. If you experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting after taking it, you should visit the hospital immediately. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis, which is a rare but very dangerous condition. If you have difficulty breathing, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain, seek medical attention immediately. This medication should not be taken by patients with impaired kidney function or in states that can affect kidney function, such as severe infections, dehydration, heart failure, or acute myocardial infarction. Also, when undergoing tests that use radiocontrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued and resumed only after confirming normal kidney function post-examination. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication, nor is it recommended for children under 18 years of age as safety and efficacy have not been established. During treatment, attention is required as the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may increase if meal intake is irregular, there is excessive exercise, or if other medications are being taken concurrently. This medication can cause side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, headache, upper respiratory infections, and especially when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas, hypoglycemia symptoms may occur more frequently. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood tests should be conducted to ensure the safety of this medication, and vitamin B12 deficiency can occur, so periodic checks of blood vitamin B12 levels are recommended. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so it is safer to avoid drinking during treatment. In case surgery is necessary, this medication should be discontinued 48 hours before the procedure and restarted only after confirming normal recovery of kidney function post-surgery. Finally, it is important to regularly check blood sugar levels and health status during treatment to closely monitor therapeutic effects and the occurrence of side effects.
