This medication is used for the treatment of diabetes. Allergic reactions may occur within the first three months of administration; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, it should be discontinued immediately, and consultation with a doctor is required. Acute pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas, can occur, so if severe abdominal pain or vomiting appears, visit a hospital immediately. Patients with severe renal impairment, heart failure, acute infections, or dehydration should not take this medication. Before and after tests using contrast agents, this medication should be suspended for a certain period to prevent worsening renal function. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and it is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age due to established safety concerns. This medication may cause hypoglycemia, so caution is necessary when skipping meals or engaging in vigorous exercise. Especially when taken with other blood glucose-lowering agents or insulin, the risk of hypoglycemia may increase, so dosage adjustments should be made under a doctor's instructions. Alcohol consumption can increase the risk of severe side effects such as lactic acidosis, so it is advisable to avoid it. Regular monitoring of renal function and blood tests is necessary, and there may also be a risk of vitamin B12 deficiency requiring periodic monitoring. If undergoing surgery or if in poor health due to severe infections or trauma, the use of this medication should be temporarily suspended. If severe joint pain or skin blisters occur while taking this medication, consult a doctor immediately.
