Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this medication or its components, those with unexplained rectal bleeding, or those with severe dehydration symptoms should not take it. Additionally, patients with difficulty swallowing food or those in a supine position at risk of regurgitation should exercise caution. This medication should not be taken if there are issues with bowel function or if experiencing acute abdominal conditions, as it may worsen symptoms. Patients with hypercalcemia or kidney stones should also avoid taking this medication as it may worsen their condition. It is advisable not to use this medication in patients with severe renal impairment or those experiencing intense abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting. Caution should be exercised when this medication is used in patients who need to restrict calcium intake or who are taking active vitamin D preparations. Patients on cardiac medications or those with a history of gastrointestinal surgery also require attention. Patients with mildly impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis should be closely monitored while using this medication. While taking this medication, allergic reactions such as rashes or itching may occur; if these symptoms arise, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation. Liver function abnormalities and changes in blood values have also been reported, so caution is needed. Rarely, symptoms such as bowel obstruction, swelling, or headaches may also occur. This medication must be taken with water, as taking it without water can cause discomfort or a choking hazard in the throat or esophagus. If chest pain, difficulty swallowing, or breathing difficulties occur after taking it, immediate consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is necessary. If symptoms do not improve within 7 days, the medication should be discontinued, and a specialist should be consulted. When using it long-term, careful observation for adverse reactions is essential. This medication can interfere with the absorption of other drugs, so it is advisable to maintain a gap of at least 2 hours if taking other medications. Particularly, caution should be exercised when using it with certain antibiotics or active vitamin D preparations due to the risk of hypercalcemia. Also, when taken with cardiac drugs, side effects such as arrhythmias may occur, requiring caution. Taking this medication with acid secretion inhibitors or antacids may decrease its effectiveness. Pregnant women or women of childbearing potential should only use this medication if its benefits are judged to outweigh the risks, as safety has not been fully established. In children, safety has not been adequately established, so caution is advised. Elderly patients may have decreased renal function, increasing the risk of hypercalcemia, necessitating dosage adjustments. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and ideally kept in a cool, dry place. It is safest to store it in the original container and not to transfer it to another container.
