This medication is used for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis. It is particularly effective in treating moderate to severe scalp psoriasis and plaque psoriasis outside of the scalp in adults, especially in gel form. That is, it helps alleviate psoriasis symptoms when applied topically to the skin. It is safe to use and contributes as a treatment option for symptom improvement.

How to use

Adult use

(Ointment) Apply an appropriate amount to the affected area once daily. The recommended treatment period is 4 weeks, and treatment may be resumed under medical supervision after this period. The maximum dosage is 15 grams per day, and it should not exceed 100 grams per week. The body surface area treated should not exceed 30%. (Gel) Apply once daily to the affected area. It is recommended to use for 4 weeks on the scalp and 8 weeks on areas outside the scalp.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, patients who are allergic to this medication or its components, have had hypersensitivity reactions, have issues with calcium metabolism, have certain types of psoriasis, have severe kidney or liver disease, are children under 18 years old, or should not be used on the face, around the eyes, or in the genital area. Additionally, this medication should be avoided in patients with skin infections caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, or parasites, as it may worsen symptoms. It is also advisable not to use it on wounds, mucous membranes, or ulcerated areas. Caution is necessary when using this medication in pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, elderly patients, or those with liver dysfunction or diabetes. Particularly, consultation with medical staff is needed as it may affect blood sugar levels. Various skin reactions such as itching, skin rashes, skin dryness, and skin irritation may occur when using this medication. In severe cases, skin infections or hypersensitivity reactions may develop, so if symptoms appear, usage should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted. Long-term use or application over large areas may lead to side effects such as skin thinning, pigmentation changes, and vascular dilation. Also, due to the corticosteroid component, systemic side effects may occur, particularly when using occlusive dressings. This medication should not be applied to the face, around the eyes, around the mouth, or on the genital skin, and hands must be washed thoroughly after use. Care should also be taken to avoid excessive exposure of the treatment area to natural or artificial light. Using this medication excessively may raise calcium levels in the blood, but this will return to normal once usage is stopped. Caution must be taken as serious side effects such as adrenal insufficiency may arise from excessive usage. The use of this medication during pregnancy may affect the fetus, so it should only be used after consulting a doctor, and caution is needed during breastfeeding as well. It is recommended not to use this medication in conjunction with other corticosteroid preparations or salicylic acid, and if combined with other psoriasis treatments or phototherapy, medical staff should be consulted.
