View approved original text

This medicine helps to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. Additionally, it is effective in reducing the risk of death from myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases in high-risk patients aged 55 and older who cannot use ACE inhibitors. It is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and stroke or those with clinical evidence of end-organ damage in high-risk diabetes.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be stopped immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This medication should not be used in women who are allergic to it, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver disease or cholestasis, patients with a history of certain angioedema, and patients with diabetes or severe renal impairment. It should be used with caution in elderly patients, those with high potassium levels, patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, those with heart valve diseases or cardiovascular diseases, patients with gastrointestinal diseases, renal artery hypertension patients, and patients with severely impaired kidney function. While taking this medication, side effects such as low blood pressure, dizziness, angioedema, hyperkalemia, worsening renal function, liver function abnormalities, and difficulty breathing may occur. If any symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately. When taken with other antihypertensives, this medication may increase the blood pressure lowering effect or affect renal function, so blood pressure and renal function, as well as electrolyte levels should be regularly monitored when used in combination. Particularly, caution is needed when taken with lithium, certain diuretics, potassium-sparing diuretics, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as the risk of side effects may increase. Patients scheduled for surgery should ideally stop taking this medication 24 hours before the procedure and should be cautious of dizziness or fainting risks while driving or operating machinery. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children and adolescents under 18 years, so it is not recommended. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, tachycardia, dizziness, and acute renal failure may occur, and appropriate treatment should be sought immediately at a medical facility. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be opened until right before use.
