Treatment of respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis) and reproductive infections (gonorrhea)
This injection works effectively against various bacteria, treating a wide range of infections from respiratory infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis to ENT infections, kidney and urinary tract infections, and reproductive infections such as gonorrhea. It is also used for the prevention of infections before and after surgery, and is effective against infections of the bones and joints, as well as gastrointestinal infections such as peritonitis, cholecystitis, and cholangitis. It particularly aids in infection management for patients with compromised immune function and is applicable in the treatment of meningitis. By addressing such diverse infections, it can significantly contribute to your recovery.
Adults and children over 12 years: administer 1 to 2 g (potency) of ceftriaxone once daily by intravenous or intramuscular injection. In cases of severe illness or infections caused by pathogens with moderate susceptibility, the dose may be increased to 4 g (potency) once daily. Elderly patients: follow the adult dosage and administration guidelines without modification. In the treatment of gonorrhea, a single intramuscular injection of 250 mg (potency) is recommended. For pre- and post-surgical procedures.
For newborns (within 14 days of birth): administer 20 to 50 mg per kg (potency) once daily, not exceeding 50 mg (potency). For infants and children (15 days to 12 years): administer per kg of body weight.
This medication should not be used in combination with calcium-containing solutions or other medications, and should not be administered simultaneously even with separate injection ports. Especially in newborns younger than 28 days, there is a risk of precipitation when calcium and this medication combine, so it must not be administered. Newborns or premature infants receiving this medication along with calcium-containing solutions may develop precipitates in the lungs and kidneys, leading to serious complications, thus caution is required. It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or allergies to cephalosporin or penicillin antibiotics. Patients allergic to certain local anesthetics such as lidocaine or premature infants, and newborns with jaundice, hypoalbuminemia, or acidosis should also not receive this drug. Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients with a history of allergies, especially those frequently experiencing allergic symptoms like bronchial asthma or skin rashes, and to patients with severely impaired renal function. Elderly patients or those in poor general condition may be at increased risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, and serum levels should be monitored, with vitamin K supplementation as necessary. Various side effects, including eosinophilia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, diarrhea, rashes, impaired liver function, membrane colitis, granulocytopenia, anemia, coagulation disorders, headache, dizziness, bronchospasm, loose stools, nausea, vomiting, itching, hematuria, diabetes, phlebitis, pain at injection site, fever, chills, increased serum creatinine, oral abnormalities, wheezing, dizziness, changes in stool, tinnitus, sweating, erythema, redness, polymorphic erythema, and allergic reactions may occur; if any unusual symptoms arise, immediate consultation with medical personnel is required. Rarely, serious adverse events such as shock, severe allergic reactions, pseudomembranous colitis, interstitial pneumonia, and severe skin reactions may occur, necessitating close monitoring of the patient's status during administration. It is crucial to conduct susceptibility testing to prevent the development of resistant bacteria and to administer it for only the minimum necessary duration. A detailed medical history and skin tests are recommended before administration to predict allergic responses. Post-administration, preparations for emergency treatment in case of shock should be ready, and the patient should be observed in a stable condition. Regular blood, liver, and kidney checks are advisable to identify any abnormalities. When administering doses exceeding 1 gram per day, precipitation may form in the gallbladder; however, most will resolve once administration is stopped, with no or minor symptoms. In the case of overdose, symptomatic treatment should be pursued as blood dialysis or peritoneal dialysis will not eliminate the drug. Symptoms like dizziness may occur during treatment, so caution is required during driving or operation of machinery. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established; therefore, it should only be administered to pregnant women or those who might become pregnant when necessary, and caution is warranted for breastfeeding women. Safety has not been sufficiently confirmed for newborns or premature infants, and it should not be used in newborns with high bilirubin levels due to the risk of bilirubin encephalopathy. Elderly individuals may experience more adverse reactions due to decreased physiological functions, so careful management of dosage and intervals is necessary. This medication may cause false positive results in some blood tests; hence, care should be taken during testing. When administered, the injection solution should be used promptly, and combination with calcium-containing solutions should be avoided.
