Treatment of respiratory and urogenital infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, cystitis, etc.)
This medication is effective against a variety of bacteria and is used for respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also helpful in treating urinary tract infections like cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis as well as pelvic infections and gonorrhea. It is effective for infections of the skin and soft tissues such as abscesses, wound infections, osteomyelitis, and dental infections. In particular, it can respond to multiple bacterial strains, including resistant strains such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, making it widely applicable. This medication improves patients' symptoms by treating various infections.
For adults and children 12 years and older or weighing 40 kg or more, administer Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium at 250 mg/125 mg for each administration, orally three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of severe and respiratory infections, the dose may be increased to 500 mg/125 mg per administration. Adjust the dose based on creatinine clearance for patients with renal impairment. - For creatinine clearance of 30 mL/min or more: no dose adjustment needed.
For children under 12 years old or weighing less than 40 kg, administer Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium at 250 mg/125 mg for each administration, orally three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of severe and respiratory infections, administer 50 mg per dose.
This medication is a beta-lactam antibiotic and should not be administered to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillin or cephalosporin drugs. Patients with viral infections such as infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia may have an increased risk of rash when using this medication, so caution is needed. Patients who have previously experienced jaundice or liver dysfunction due to this medication or penicillin-class drugs should avoid its administration due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with impaired liver function should use this medication cautiously, as it may worsen liver function. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment should adjust dosing intervals, as the drug may accumulate in the body. Those with allergic conditions or family history may easily exhibit allergic symptoms such as skin rashes or asthma; hence, caution is advised. Patients unable to take medication orally, elderly patients, or those in poor general condition may exhibit symptoms of vitamin K deficiency, which requires monitoring. Patients with gastrointestinal diseases such as vomiting or diarrhea may not absorb the medication properly. Gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur, and in severe cases, serious side effects like pseudomembranous colitis may develop, so patients should consult a doctor immediately if symptoms appear. Hematic anomalies may occur, and patients, especially the elderly or males, should undergo regular liver function tests, as symptoms of liver dysfunction may be noticed more frequently in these populations. Rarely, severe skin reactions or anaphylactic shock may occur, and if symptoms such as rashes or breathing difficulties arise, the drug should be stopped immediately and medical personnel should be notified. Blood disorders such as leukopenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia may occur, and regular blood tests are recommended. Central nervous system side effects such as anxiety, confusion, and seizures may rarely arise, especially in patients with poor renal function or when taking high doses. Acute kidney damage may occur, necessitating regular kidney function tests, and immediate cessation of the medication if abnormalities are found. This medication may affect intestinal flora, causing dysbiosis manifesting as stomatitis or candidiasis; thus, appropriate measures should be taken if symptoms develop. There may be rare occurrences of bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency or symptoms of vitamin B complex deficiency, necessitating monitoring for associated symptoms. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, it is crucial to carry out susceptibility testing and use this medication for the minimum necessary duration. Patients with a history of severe hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin should use this medication with extreme caution. During administration, anaphylactic shock may occur, requiring sufficient monitoring and emergency preparedness post-administration. If gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea or abdominal cramps occur, the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis should be considered, and the medication should be stopped immediately. Long-term use may lead to an overgrowth of insensitive bacteria, so close observation is necessary if used beyond 14 days. Patients with signs of liver dysfunction should use this medication cautiously, ensuring that the duration does not exceed 14 days. As renal excretion is the primary route, dose adjustment is needed for patients with renal impairment. In suspected cases of infectious mononucleosis, this medication should be avoided, and drug administration should be stopped immediately if symptoms of skin rashes or serum sickness appear. This medication is not recommended for use in early pregnancy, and during breastfeeding, it may cause side effects in infants, so it should be discontinued upon the development of any abnormal symptoms. This medication is generally not recommended for children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg due to insufficient usage experience. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more easily due to decreased physiological functions, necessitating monitoring of dosage and administration intervals. This medication may affect the results of some clinical tests, so this should be taken into consideration during testing. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, renal failure, seizures, hypersensitivity shock, and other symptoms may occur, requiring the immediate cessation of the medication and appropriate emergency measures.
