Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
This medicine is used to improve blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension who find it difficult to control their blood pressure with either amlodipine or valsartan monotherapy.
The recommended dosage for this medication is one tablet once daily, taken with water regardless of meals. It is advised to take it at the same time every day (e.g., in the morning). The dosages should be adjusted according to individual components (amlodipine or valsartan) for patients whose blood pressure is not well controlled with monotherapy. - 5/80 mg: For patients whose blood pressure is adequately controlled with amlodipine 5 mg or valsartan 80 mg monotherapy.
The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in pediatric patients under 18 years of age, hence its use is not recommended.
This drug can seriously harm the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is suspected. It should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, or by women who are breastfeeding. Patients with severe kidney impairment or liver disease, specific heart conditions, or a history of angioedema should not take this medication. Patients with low body sodium or fluid may experience hypotension, so their condition should be carefully confirmed before taking this medication, and blood pressure should be monitored closely during treatment. Patients with high potassium levels should be cautious when taking this drug along with potassium-containing medications or supplements, and regular checks of blood potassium levels are advised. Patients with reduced kidney function or kidney transplant recipients should also be carefully monitored due to the risk of worsening kidney function when taking this medication. During treatment with this drug, side effects such as dizziness, headache, swelling, blood pressure changes, indigestion, and skin rash may occur, and rarely angioedema or severe allergic reactions can happen. If such symptoms appear, immediate consultation with a doctor is necessary. Caution is advised while driving or operating machinery as dizziness or fatigue may occur, especially when starting the medication or changing dosages. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any ongoing medications. Particular attention is needed when taken alongside potassium supplements, diuretics, certain anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), some antibiotics, and heart medications. It is recommended not to use this drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and if planning to become pregnant, consult with a doctor. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been adequately established for patients under 18 years of age.
