How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, the timing should be adjusted based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one 5 mg chewable tablet at bedtime once daily. Administer the 5 mg chewable tablet 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years should chew and take 5 mg of montelukast once daily. Administer the 5 mg chewable tablet 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, and patients with phenylketonuria, a hereditary condition that requires limitation of phenylalanine intake, should not take it. This medication contains lactose; therefore, patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. This medication is used in patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis and may cause side effects such as weakness, fatigue, headache, indigestion, nasal congestion, coughing, and rash upon administration. In particular, abnormal reactions such as liver function abnormalities or eosinophilia may occur in some patients, so if any adverse symptoms appear, consult a healthcare professional immediately. This medication is not for treating acute asthma attacks, so an emergency bronchodilator should be used immediately in cases of acute symptoms. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, especially for patients with aspirin hypersensitivity. Pregnant or nursing women should consult a doctor before taking this medication, and it should only be used when necessary. It is safe for pediatric patients but should not be used in infants under 6 months of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. In cases of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so general supportive care and supervision by healthcare professionals are necessary. This medication is sensitive to light, so do not open the packaging until just before taking, and take it immediately after preparation.
