This medication is used for treating painful muscle spasms caused by musculoskeletal disorders, such as cervical syndrome, adhesive capsulitis, and low back pain. Additionally, it is effective in alleviating spastic paralysis resulting from neurological disorders. Symptoms associated with this include various neurological issues such as cerebrovascular disorders, spastic spinal paralysis, spinal injuries, and cerebral palsy. This medication contributes to relieving muscle rigidity and pain, making everyday life more comfortable for patients. Therefore, it should be actively used to improve symptoms when there is muscle stiffness or pain.

How to take

Adult dose

Eperisone Hydrochloride: 50 mg orally three times a day after meals. Adjust dosage appropriately based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Firstly, it should not be administered to patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or those with severe myasthenia gravis. Moreover, this medication contains lactose, so it should not be given to patients with genetically determined galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Caution is warranted in patients with a history of drug hypersensitivity or those with compromised liver function. There is a risk of liver function deterioration, so these patients require special attention. When using this medication, various side effects may occur, so careful monitoring is essential. Rarely, shock may occur; thus, if symptoms arise, use should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Liver enzyme levels may rise, and symptoms of liver dysfunction should also be watched for. Renal dysfunction, anemia, skin rash, and itching may occur. Additionally, neurological symptoms such as insomnia, drowsiness, headache, and paralysis or tremors of the limbs have also been reported. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Urinary issues like urinary retention or post void residual may occur and systemic weakness or dizziness may be noted as well. Serious skin reactions like toxic epidermal necrolysis and Stevens-Johnson syndrome can develop, so if symptoms such as fever, erythema, blisters, itching, conjunctival injection, or stomatitis occur, use should be discontinued immediately. While taking this medication, weakness, unsteadiness, and drowsiness may be experienced; if these symptoms are severe, dosage reduction or discontinuation is advised. Furthermore, drowsiness or impaired concentration may occur, therefore driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided. Caution is necessary when taking this medication with similar drugs or certain muscle relaxants, as it may cause visual disturbances. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication if the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, as its safety has not been established. Breastfeeding women should avoid use if possible, and if unavoidable, should consider discontinuing breastfeeding. The safety of this medication in children has not been fully established, so it should be used with caution in this population. In the elderly, due to potential decline in bodily functions, dosage adjustments or careful administration is necessary.

Serious side effects

Shock (severe allergic reaction), liver abnormalities (elevated liver enzymes ALT, AST, ALP), kidney abnormalities (proteinuria, elevated BUN), anemia, anaphylaxis, angioedema, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and mucocutaneous-ocular syndrome (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

Mild side effects

Rash, itching, insomnia, drowsiness, headache, body stiffness, limb tremors, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, discomfort in the stomach, thirst, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, stomatitis, urinary retention, urinary incontinence, post void residual, weakness, unsteadiness, generalized malaise, dizziness, hypotonia, facial flushing, sweating, and caution in administration in the feet.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air or moisture from entering. The storage temperature should be maintained between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature to preserve the efficacy of the medication for as long as possible.
