This medication helps prevent and manage asthma. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily. For asthma patients, it is taken in the evening. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time is determined according to the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet in the evening once daily. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to relieve symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis. While taking this medication, there may be changes in the neurological and psychiatric conditions, so if symptoms such as agitation, aggressive behavior, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, sleep disturbances, or suicidal thoughts occur, consult a doctor immediately. This medication is not intended to treat acute asthma attacks; a separate emergency medication should be used in case of acute symptoms. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should not take it, and it should not be taken by those who are allergic to this medication or its components. During use, side effects such as fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, cough, and rash may occur, and in rare cases, liver dysfunction, blood abnormalities, or skin hypersensitivity may develop. In particular, among asthma patients, there is a rare occurrence of vasculitis symptoms associated with eosinophilia; therefore, inform a physician if respiratory symptoms worsen or if a skin rash appears. This medication can be used with other asthma treatments; however, it should not be abruptly replaced with other corticosteroid preparations. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid taking those medications while using this medication. If pregnant or nursing, always consult a physician before use, and use it only if necessary. For children, safety and efficacy have been confirmed according to age, but it should not be used in children under 6 months of age. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment and general supportive care. Store this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers. While using this medication, take it regularly as directed by a doctor, and consult healthcare professionals if symptoms worsen or new symptoms arise.
