Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This drug helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It particularly decreases the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Moreover, it lowers the risk of hospitalization due to revascularization procedures and angina pectoris, and congestive heart failure. In patients with hyperlipidemia, it reduces total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby improving blood lipid levels. It effectively regulates cholesterol levels in pediatric patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. This drug is used to maintain heart health and reduce the risk of associated diseases.
Atorvastatin is recommended to be administered once daily at a starting dose of 10 mg. If more reduction in LDL cholesterol is necessary, it can be started at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. Generally, it is administered within a range of 10 to 80 mg once daily, with lipid levels analyzed within 2 to 4 weeks after initiating treatment and adjusting the dosage accordingly. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
The recommended starting dose for pediatric patients (ages 10-17) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 20 mg daily. The dosage should be adjusted according to the therapeutic goals and assessed over intervals of 4 weeks or more.
