Improvement of symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial) and sinusitis, nasal polyps
This medication is used to prevent and treat symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children over the age of 2. Particularly, prevention of seasonal allergic rhinitis can begin 2 to 4 weeks before the onset of pollen season, which is the allergen-triggering period. Additionally, it is effective for the treatment of nasal polyps in adults over 18 years old. Furthermore, it can be utilized in adolescents over 12 years old and adults for the treatment of acute sinusitis without bacterial infection. This medication is used for various rhinitis and sinus-related conditions.
Allergic rhinitis: 2 sprays in each nostril once a day (total daily dose 0.2 mg). Upon symptom relief, reduce to 1 spray in each nostril (total daily dose 0.1 mg). A maximum of 4 sprays in each nostril can be administered once a day (total daily dose 0.4 mg). Nasal Polyps: 2 sprays in each nostril once a day (total daily dose 0.2 mg). If symptoms do not improve after 5-6 weeks, 2 sprays in each nostril can be administered twice a day (total daily dose 0.4 mg). Acute Sinusitis: Generally, 2 sprays in each nostril twice a day (total daily dose 0.4 mg).
Allergic rhinitis: 1 spray in each nostril once a day (total daily dose 0.1 mg).
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, those who are allergic to this drug or its components, those with untreated infections of the nasal mucosa, those who have recently had nasal surgery or have wounds in the nose, and children under 2 years old should not use this drug. Additionally, there are patients who should use this medication with caution. Those with active tuberculosis or systemic infections, those who experience repeated nosebleeds, those at risk of exposure to varicella or measles, those with certain types of nasal polyps, and women who are pregnant or nursing should use this medication cautiously. This drug may cause various side effects such as headaches, nosebleeds, pharyngitis, cough, upper respiratory infections, etc. Rarely, serious reactions such as allergic reactions or respiratory distress may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms occur, usage should be stopped immediately and consultation with a physician should be sought. Long-term use at high doses may result in systemic corticosteroid side effects, therefore caution is needed. Furthermore, if a fungal infection occurs in the nasal cavity or pharynx, this medication should be discontinued and appropriate treatment should be obtained. This medication can affect vision, so individuals with a history of glaucoma or cataracts should receive regular ophthalmologic examinations, and if blurred vision or visual disturbances occur, they should seek medical attention immediately. When used in children, there is a possibility of growth delay, so regular monitoring of growth status is recommended, and administering the minimum effective dose is preferable. Women who are pregnant or nursing should use this drug based on the judgment of a physician considering its effects on the fetus or infant, and observe the adrenal function of the infant carefully when corticosteroids are used during pregnancy. This medication can interact with other drugs, so caution is necessary particularly when used with CYP3A4 inhibitors due to an increased risk of side effects. When using, shake the container well, conduct a test spray before use, and avoid direct spraying onto the eyes or the nasal septum. Additionally, keep it out of reach of children. In case of overdose, special treatment is often not needed, but caution is advised due to the possibility of side effects from excessive corticosteroid exposure.
