Essential hypertension is a condition treated to control blood pressure within a normal range. Continuous treatment can reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications and improve overall health. Therefore, it is used in the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Persons with an allergy to this medication or its components, pregnant women, nursing mothers, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients with severe liver impairment, patients with bile duct obstruction, and patients with lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Hypotension may occur in patients with decreased blood volume or sodium levels, so their condition should be closely monitored, and appropriate measures should be taken if necessary. Patients with reduced kidney function or who have received a kidney transplant must periodically check kidney function and blood potassium levels through blood tests, and this medication is not recommended for those with severe renal impairment. Patients with hypertension, heart failure, kidney problems, etc., may experience side effects such as worsening of kidney function or hyperkalemia, so caution is needed. Dizziness may occur, so it is advisable to avoid hazardous activities such as working at heights or driving. If taken with other antihypertensive medications, the blood pressure-lowering effect may be increased, and combined use with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may lead to dangerously elevated potassium levels in the blood. Concomitant use with lithium preparations can increase lithium concentrations, leading to toxicity; therefore, this combination should be avoided. Caution is required as the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may worsen kidney function. Pregnant women should discontinue use to avoid serious impacts on the fetus, and nursing mothers should discontinue breastfeeding or the medication due to the potential for adverse reactions in infants. Safety has not been established for children, so it is advisable not to use this medication in pediatric patients. In case of overdose, hypotension and palpitations may occur, so it is important to consult medical personnel immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. This medication is known to have a low risk of carcinogenicity or genotoxicity with long-term use; however, any unusual symptoms encountered during treatment should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately.
