Summary

Main use
Improvement of essential hypertension
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled at this dose, the dose may be increased to 20 mg once daily. If further blood pressure reduction is needed, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 40 mg once daily. Blood pressure-lowering effects appear within 2 weeks after starting treatment, with maximum effect seen after about 8 weeks. If blood pressure is not controlled with monotherapy, it may be combined with thiazide diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide. To improve adherence, it is recommended to take it at the same time every day (e.g., in the morning). For patients at risk of intravascular volume depletion (e.g., those on diuretics, especially renal impairment), it is advisable to start treatment at a lower dose while closely observing their condition.
Child dose
Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.

View approved original text

This medication used for the treatment of essential hypertension effectively controls blood pressure and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It works by dilating blood vessels or reducing the workload on the heart to lower blood pressure. Along with medication, it is important to improve lifestyle habits, and continuing medication under a doctor's guidance is advisable. It is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended initial dose is 10 mg once daily, regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled at this dose, the dose may be increased to 20 mg once daily. If further blood pressure reduction is needed, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 40 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This medication should not be used by individuals with allergies to any component, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients undergoing renal dialysis, patients with severe liver dysfunction, biliary obstruction, or certain genetically predisposed individuals with lactose intolerance. Patients with low blood volume or sodium may experience hypotension upon initial dosing, requiring careful observation, and if hypotension occurs, immediate appropriate action should be taken. Patients with weakened kidney function or kidney transplant recipients should have their potassium and creatinine levels checked regularly, and it is not recommended for patients with severe renal impairment. The effectiveness may be limited or there is a risk of side effects for some patients with heart diseases or primary aldosteronism, so caution is warranted. Dizziness may occur during treatment, so caution should be exercised when engaging in dangerous activities such as climbing or driving. Mild side effects such as dizziness, headache, back pain, indigestion, and cough may occur, but it is generally safe to use. In cases of chronic diarrhea or significant weight loss, this may indicate gastrointestinal diseases related to this medication, so it should be discussed with healthcare providers. When used with other antihypertensives, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium preparations, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, side effects may be increased due to interactions, so consultation with a specialist is necessary. Serious side effects may occur during pregnancy, so if pregnancy is planned or if pregnant, consultation with a doctor is essential. In breastfeeding cases, as the medication can pass into breast milk affecting the baby, it may be necessary to consider discontinuing breastfeeding or the medication. Safety in children has not been established, and caution is advised in pediatric usage. Elderly patients may have slower drug metabolism, so dosage adjustment and monitoring are necessary. Overdosage may lead to hypotension, palpitations, and bradycardia, requiring immediate appropriate medical treatment. This medication has been reported to have a low risk of carcinogenicity or genotoxicity even with long-term use, but if any abnormal symptoms occur, it should be reported to a specialist immediately.
