This medication helps prevent and manage asthma over the long term. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet once daily; asthma patients should take it in the evening. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time can be determined according to the patient's condition. It should be taken 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years should chew and take 5 mg of Montelukast once daily. It should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to relieve symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis. While taking this medication, abnormal neuropsychiatric symptoms may appear, so if changes such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts occur, contact your doctor immediately. This medication contains an ingredient called phenylalanine, so patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. Do not use if you have a hypersensitivity reaction to this medication. While taking, side effects such as fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough, and rash may occur, so consult your doctor if any abnormal symptoms arise. This medication is not suitable for treating acute asthma attacks, so always have an emergency bronchodilator on hand. This medication can be used together with other asthma treatments, but you should not suddenly switch to this medication from another one. Patients who are hypersensitive to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid taking those medications during the treatment with this medication. Use during pregnancy only when absolutely necessary; caution is also needed during breastfeeding. Children and the elderly can use this medication, but appropriate dosages and precautions according to age should be followed. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so general treatment and observation according to symptoms are necessary. This medication is sensitive to light, so take it immediately after opening and keep it in a tightly sealed container away from children's reach. Consult your doctor if asthma symptoms worsen or new symptoms appear while taking, and do not arbitrarily reduce or discontinue other medications.
