How to take

Adult dose

The medication is taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time is determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet in the evening once a day. Adults and adolescents aged over 15 take 10 mg of Montelukast orally once a day.

Precautions

This medication is used to alleviate symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis, mainly by regulating inflammatory responses. While taking this medication, there may be abnormalities in the nervous system; therefore, if symptoms such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts occur, consult a doctor immediately. This medication is not used to treat acute asthma attacks, so a separate emergency medication should always be available and used during acute symptoms. Patients with lactose intolerance or specific metabolic disorders should not take this medication. While taking this medication, various adverse reactions such as fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, headache, cough, and rash may occur; if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult healthcare professionals. Particularly, pediatric and elderly patients can also use this medication, but careful observation regarding safety and efficacy according to age should be taken. This medication can be used in combination with other asthma treatments without significant drug interactions, but caution is needed when used with drugs that induce certain liver metabolic enzymes. If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before taking it only if necessary, and there is still insufficient data on the effects on the fetus or newborn. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes; thus, general emergency care and symptom management are needed. This medication is sensitive to light, so do not open the packaging until immediately before taking and store it out of reach of children. Continue to take the medication as directed by a doctor, and do not suddenly stop or change other asthma medications. Patients with exercise-induced asthma may find it difficult to prevent symptoms with this medication alone and should continue using a separate inhaled bronchodilator.
