Blood pressure control effect in hypertension
This medication, used in combination with Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide, is designed to help patients with hypertension achieve proper blood pressure control. It is particularly effective in cases where adequate blood pressure is not achieved with a single agent. The two components complement each other to dilate blood vessels and regulate salt and fluid in the body, thereby helping to lower blood pressure. This medication plays a crucial role in managing blood pressure reliably, thus reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is used in the treatment of hypertension.
The usual dosage is 1 tablet once daily, containing 50 mg of Losartan Potassium and 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide. Doses exceeding 100 mg of Losartan Potassium or 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide per day are not recommended. Administration: 1. Start with 1 tablet once daily containing 50 mg of Losartan Potassium and 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide. If blood pressure is not controlled after 3 weeks of administration, the dose may be increased to 100 mg of Losartan Potassium and 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily. <Classification Number 214> [Notice of Changes in Approval Information (Reassessment) (Pharmaceutical Management Division-6843, December 31, 2012)] Losartan Potassium / Hydrochlorothiazide (Tablets) ○ Adults The usual dosage is 1 tablet once daily, containing 50 mg of Losartan Potassium and 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide. Doses exceeding 100 mg of Losartan Potassium or 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide per day are not recommended. Typically, maximum antihypertensive effect appears about 3 weeks after starting treatment. This medication can be administered with other antihypertensive agents and can be taken regardless of meals. To minimize adverse reactions, this medication should be started when the expected effect is not achieved with monotherapy. 1. Alternative therapy: Each dose-adjusted combination of Losartan Potassium and Hydrochlorothiazide can be replaced with this medication. 2. Patients whose hypertension is not controlled with monotherapy of Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide: Start with 1 tablet once daily containing 50 mg of Losartan Potassium and 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide, and after 3 weeks, if blood pressure is not controlled, it can be increased to 100 mg of Losartan Potassium and 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily. 3. Patients whose hypertension is not controlled with monotherapy of 100 mg of Losartan Potassium: Start with 1 tablet once daily containing 100 mg of Losartan Potassium and 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide, and if blood pressure is not controlled after 3 weeks, it can be increased to 100 mg of Losartan Potassium and 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily. 4. For patients whose hypertension is not controlled with once-daily 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide, or who show hypokalemia with this dosage: One may start with the regimen of 50 mg of Losartan Potassium and 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily, which can reduce the dose of Hydrochlorothiazide without diminishing the overall antihypertensive effect. Subsequently, if blood pressure is not controlled after 3 weeks, the dose may be increased to 100 mg of Losartan Potassium and 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily. ○ Kidney impairment patients For patients with a creatinine clearance of 30 mL/min or more, the usual dose can be administered. In patients with more severe kidney impairment, it is preferable to use loop diuretics rather than thiazide-type medications, thus administration in such cases is not recommended. ○ Liver impairment patients Since the initial dosage adjustment is required, 25 mg of Losartan Potassium cannot be administered with this medication in patients with liver impairment; therefore, administration in such cases is not recommended. ○ Pediatrics (under 18 years) This combination of Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide has no experience of use in children and adolescents, and therefore should not be administered to them.
There is no experience in using this medication in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age), so it should not be administered.
This medication can cause severe harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to the components of this medication or with specific kidney or liver diseases should not take it. Patients with electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia or hypercalcemia should also exercise caution. Patients with excessively low blood pressure or decreased blood volume, those with renal artery stenosis, and the elderly or those with a history of diabetes or gout should take this medication with care. The Hydrochlorothiazide component can cause electrolyte imbalances, so regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor electrolyte status, and if symptoms occur, consultation with a physician should be sought immediately. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. There may be interactions with other medications, so patients taking potassium supplements or medications containing potassium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or lithium preparations should inform their doctor. Possible adverse reactions include dizziness, cough, rash, muscle pain, indigestion, etc.; if severe side effects occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary.
