This medication is used for patients with primary hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended adult dosage is one tablet containing valsartan 80 mg and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg taken once daily, with or without food and taken with a small amount of water. Valsartan 160 mg and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg may be taken as prescribed if necessary. Patients with mild to moderate kidney impairment do not require dosage adjustment, and patients with mild to moderate liver impairment without cholestasis should take valsartan

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies to any of the ingredients or sulfonamide drugs, as well as those with severe liver or kidney disorders, should not take this medication. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or certain liver diseases should also avoid this medication. Furthermore, patients with a history of angioedema symptoms or those who have taken medications that induce specific angioedema should exercise caution. Patients with electrolyte imbalances, sodium or fluid deficits, or impaired kidney or liver function should take this medication cautiously and require regular monitoring. Elderly patients and those with heart failure or post-myocardial infarction should carefully monitor kidney function changes when taking this medication. This medication should be used with caution in combination with other antihypertensive medications as it may cause excessive hypotension or kidney function problems. The hydrochlorothiazide component may cause sensitivity to sunlight, increasing the risk of skin cancer, so sunlight exposure should be limited and skin condition should be monitored regularly. During treatment, dizziness or drowsiness may occur, requiring caution when driving or operating machinery. Potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications should not be taken without consulting a physician, and regular monitoring of electrolyte levels in the blood is required. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. It is also advisable for breastfeeding women to avoid this medication. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, so it should not be used in pediatric patients. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, arrhythmias, and electrolyte abnormalities may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. This medication should be stored in a sealed container away from moisture and direct sunlight, out of reach of children.
