This medication helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It particularly lowers the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, as well as the risk of revascularization and chronic stable angina in adults aged 55 and older, or those with risk factors for coronary artery disease such as smoking, hypertension, low HDL cholesterol levels, and family history. It is also effective in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for coronary artery disease. Additionally, for patients with clinical evidence, it reduces the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, fatal and non-fatal stroke, revascularization, hospitalization for congestive heart failure, and angina. Furthermore, it aids in the treatment of hyperlipidemia by lowering total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B, and triglyceride levels in patients with primary and mixed dyslipidemia while increasing levels of good cholesterol, HDL cholesterol. It is effective in treating patients with dysbetalipoproteinemia and high serum triglycerides who do not respond adequately to dietary interventions. This medication improves the risk of both heart disease and hyperlipidemia.
