Diagnosis of diabetes and related conditions
This medication is used to diagnose diabetes and its related conditions through glucose tolerance testing.
Adults (excluding pregnant women): Administer 75 grams of glucose. Pregnant women: Administer 100 grams of glucose.
Pediatric: Administer glucose at 1.75 grams per kg of body weight, with a total dose not exceeding 75 grams.
This medication should not be used in patients with conditions related to glucose. It is particularly important not to administer it to patients who have difficulty absorbing glucose and galactose. Caution should be taken when using this medication in patients with diabetes insipidus. Moreover, this medication contains Yellow No. 4 and Yellow No. 5 dyes, so patients who are allergic or have had hypersensitive reactions to these components should be careful. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal effects may occur, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Moreover, rarely, neurological symptoms like headaches may be experienced. This medication must be taken orally according to the doctor's instructions, and medication should be discontinued the day before the test. It is advised to avoid overeating, excessive drinking, or alcohol. Nothing should be consumed from 12 hours before the test to maintain fasting, and non-water beverages should be avoided on the day of the test. During the test, a comfortable position should be maintained, and vigorous exercise should be avoided; it is also better not to smoke. The test results can be influenced by various factors, so the patient's condition should be closely monitored. Taking laxatives together with this medication may interfere with its intestinal absorption, so caution is warranted. Older patients may experience decreased body function, so this medication should be used carefully, potentially by reducing the dosage. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children in a safe place.
