Improvement of Alzheimer-type dementia symptoms
This medication is used for the treatment of Alzheimer-type dementia symptoms. It helps alleviate symptoms of dementia such as memory decline and cognitive dysfunction. The goal is to improve the patient's ability to carry out daily activities. It contributes to slowing the progression of symptoms and improving the quality of life. Therefore, it is highly recommended for patients with Alzheimer-type dementia.
As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. For the first 4 to 6 weeks, administer 5 mg, and after evaluating the clinical response, the dosage may be increased to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg daily, caution should be taken regarding gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight women aged 85 years and older should not exceed 5 mg per day and require careful monitoring.
There is no experience of use in pediatric patients.
This medication contains Donepezil Hydrochloride Monohydrate as the active ingredient and is primarily used for the treatment of Alzheimer-type dementia. This medication should not be administered to specific patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to this medication or any of its components, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, breastfeeding women, and patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication. Patients with heart disease or cardiac conduction disorders may experience cardiac issues such as bradycardia or arrhythmia during the use of this medication, so caution is needed. Additionally, patients who are taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or have a history of peptic ulcers should monitor for the possibility of gastrointestinal bleeding or exacerbation of ulcers. Individuals with a history of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should use this medication cautiously, as it may worsen their symptoms due to bronchoconstriction and increased mucus secretion. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease should be cautious, as this medication may exacerbate symptoms. Serious adverse reactions such as syncope, cardiac abnormalities, gastrointestinal bleeding, liver function impairment, seizure disorders, movement disorders, muscular abnormal symptoms, breathing difficulties, acute pancreatitis, acute renal failure, and sudden death may occur while taking this medication; therefore, if these symptoms occur, immediate medical attention is required. Commonly reported side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, dizziness, insomnia, headache, and fatigue, most of which are mild or temporary. This medication is not approved for use in other forms of dementia or memory disorders aside from Alzheimer-type dementia, and its therapeutic effect should be regularly assessed. Patients with heart disease or electrolyte imbalances may have an increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias while taking this medication, and electrocardiogram monitoring may be necessary. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery, especially during the initial period of treatment or when increasing the dosage, as dizziness or fatigue may occur. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this medication and should use it only after consulting a professional in necessary cases. This medication may interact with several other medications; therefore, if other medications are being taken, it is important to inform the physician or pharmacist. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, bradycardia, hypotension, respiratory depression, and seizures may occur, and emergency treatment may be necessary. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and transferring it to other containers is not advisable as it may compromise its quality.
