This medication is used in the treatment of not only hypertension but also myocardial ischemia caused by stable angina and variant angina. In addition, it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients identified with coronary artery disease through recent angiography but without heart failure or reduced cardiac output, and also decreases risks associated with coronary vascular interventions. Overall, it is used to improve the treatment and management of cardiovascular diseases.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with allergies to this medication or similar drugs, nursing women, individuals with severely impaired liver function, those with severe problems with heart valves, and those in shock should not take this medication. Also, patients with severe hypotension, those with severely impaired renal function requiring dialysis, elderly patients, and pregnant or possibly pregnant women should exercise caution when using this medication. Taking this medication may lead to side effects such as flushing, fatigue, body swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, it may cause excessively low blood pressure, allergic reactions, skin rashes, or liver function abnormalities, so immediate consultation with a physician should be sought in the event of severe symptoms. Patients with compromised heart function should use this medication cautiously, as it may exacerbate symptoms of fluid accumulation in the lungs. Patients with impaired liver function must also be monitored, as the effects of this medication can last longer, necessitating dosage adjustments. This medication lowers blood pressure slowly, so it is not suitable for heart diseases that require immediate treatment. Additionally, it is known not to significantly impair driving or machinery operation ability. There could be interactions when taken with other drugs, especially specific antibiotics, antihypertensives, anticoagulants, analgesics, and grapefruit juice. Taking grapefruit juice is not advisable as it can increase blood concentration levels of this medication and elevate the risk of side effects. Women who are pregnant or nursing should consult a physician before using this medication, as its safety is not well established. If nursing, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medication. For children, it is applicable for those aged 6 years and older, as safety and effectiveness have not been established for younger ages. In cases of overdose, blood pressure may drop excessively or heart rate may increase, requiring emergency treatment. In such cases, it is necessary to visit a hospital immediately for appropriate care.
