This medication is used to treat hypertension. It also helps to treat kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, it is used for blood pressure control and improvement of kidney health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication can be taken regardless of meals but is recommended to be taken at the same time each day. 1. Hypertension - Initial and maintenance dose is 50 mg orally once daily of losartan potassium. - If therapeutic effect is insufficient, may increase to 100 mg once daily or administer 50 mg orally twice daily. 2. Kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes - Generally, 50 mg once daily.

Children and adolescents over 6 years of age - Weight between 20 kg and less than 50 kg: administer 25 mg once daily, with the possibility of increasing to a maximum of 50 mg once daily depending on blood pressure response - Weight over 50 kg

Precautions

This medication can cause serious damage to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should not be taken by pregnant women or those who may become pregnant. Patients with hypersensitivity to this drug, severe liver dysfunction, hereditary angioedema, or primary hyperaldosteronism should also avoid taking it. Elderly patients or those with hyperkalemia, liver dysfunction, heart valve disease, or kidney disorders should use caution when taking this drug, especially when combined with other RAAS class medications. This medication is well tolerated by most patients, but rare side effects such as angioedema, liver function abnormalities, myalgia, hypotension, and renal failure may occur; therefore, any unusual symptoms should be discussed with a healthcare professional immediately. As this drug lowers blood pressure, dizziness or orthostatic hypotension may occur, so care should be taken when performing high-altitude work or driving. This medication can increase potassium levels, so avoid taking potassium supplements, potassium-containing foods, or potassium-sparing diuretics together, and regular monitoring of serum potassium levels is important. Patients with decreased liver or kidney function should adjust the dose or take it carefully, and should regularly monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte status during treatment. In case of overdose, hypotension and bradycardia may occur, so strictly adhere to the prescribed dosage, and seek treatment immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. This medication should not be given to children under 6 years of age or to children with severe kidney dysfunction. Breastfeeding women should consider discontinuing breastfeeding or other treatment options as this medication may be excreted in breast milk. It is advisable to avoid consuming grapefruit juice while taking this medication, and you should inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking due to potential drug interactions.
