Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with severely impaired kidney function. If the kidneys do not function well, magnesium may accumulate in the body excessively, posing a risk. It should also be avoided in patients with severe diarrhea. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with weak heart function or those who already have a high serum magnesium level. Occasionally, taking this medication can lead to digestive issues such as diarrhea. Prolonged use or high doses may elevate serum magnesium levels, so regular monitoring of the condition is necessary. If any abnormalities are detected, one should reduce the dosage or temporarily discontinue use. If symptoms of magnesium overdose occur, treatment may include the administration of potassium-containing medication. This medication may interfere with the absorption of certain antibiotics, specifically tetracycline-class drugs, so it is advisable not to take them together. Additionally, this medication can alter the environment within the gastrointestinal tract, affecting the absorption or excretion of other medications, thus caution is needed when taken concurrently. Taking this medication frequently alongside milk or calcium supplements may lead to milk-alkali syndrome such as hypercalcemia, so symptoms should be monitored carefully, and if any abnormalities occur, usage should be stopped. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. To maintain quality, it is safest not to transfer it to another container.
