Improvement of symptoms of periodontitis (chronic marginal periodontitis)
Minocycline hydrochloride is used to improve the symptoms of chronic marginal periodontitis caused by various bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella melaninogenica, Eikenella corrodens, Fusobacterium nucleatum, Capnocytophaga spp., and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. This medication helps alleviate inflammation and infection caused by periodontitis, improving the patient's oral health. Therefore, this drug is effective in the treatment of chronic periodontitis.
Typically, a sufficient amount is injected into the periodontal pocket once a week.
This drug is a tetracycline-class antibiotic and should not be used in patients allergic to this drug or similar components. If an allergic reaction occurs while using this medication, discontinue use immediately. Allergy symptoms may include skin rash, itching, swelling, etc. Additionally, in some cases, using this drug may allow for the proliferation of bacteria that are resistant, leading to worsening infections, so if such symptoms occur, usage should be stopped. Pain or irritation at the site of application, and rarely headaches or skin rashes, may occur, so caution is advised. It is preferable to use this drug for the minimum duration to avoid bacterial resistance, and it is safe not to continue if symptoms do not improve. Due to the risk of allergic reactions, if itching, redness, swelling, small blisters, etc., appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits of treatment are deemed greater than the risks, as its safety is not well established. Safety in children has not been adequately established, so it is advisable not to use it in children. This medication is for dental use only, and it is recommended to thoroughly manage oral hygiene, such as tartar removal, before use. When administering, the tip of the injector should be inserted deeply to ensure that the drug reaches deep into the inflamed area, and after administration, strong rinsing or eating should be avoided. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and expired medications should not be used. Finally, some bacteria may show resistance to antibiotics similar to this drug, so it should be used precisely according to the doctor’s instructions.
