This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and mucous membranes, including initial and recurrent genital herpes. It is also particularly effective in relieving acute pain associated with herpes zoster virus infections. However, the efficacy for postherpetic neuralgia has not yet been confirmed. It is also used for the treatment of chickenpox in children over 2 years old and helps alleviate symptoms caused by infection and promote recovery. In general, this drug is effectively used for herpes simplex, herpes zoster, and chickenpox.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

1. Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections: - Administer acyclovir 200 mg every 4 hours, 5 times a day for 5 days; treatment may be extended for severe initial infections. - In severe immunocompromised patients or those with gastrointestinal absorption issues, dosage may be increased to 400 mg or intravenous administration may be considered. 2.
