Precautions

This medicine should not be used by the following patients: First, anyone who has an allergic reaction to this medicine or any of its components should avoid taking it. Additionally, patients with cirrhosis or cystathionine synthase deficiency should not take this medicine because its metabolites may interfere with methionine metabolism in the body. Patients with peptic ulcers should also exercise caution, as taking this medicine may worsen symptoms. It is best to avoid this medicine in cases of severely reduced kidney function, especially in patients with a creatinine clearance of less than 25 mL/min and in those with severe liver dysfunction. When taking this medicine, it should be used cautiously in the following cases: Patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should take this medicine with caution, ensuring not to exceed a daily dose of 300 mg. Diabetic patients or those on a low-calorie diet should be particularly careful when taking syrup-form medications. Overdosing on this medicine can cause symptoms such as sweating, dizziness, and facial flushing, so the prescribed dosage must be strictly followed. Additionally, gastrointestinal symptoms such as headaches, cold symptoms, dyspnea, taste disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heartburn, as well as skin reactions like hives, rashes, and eczema may occur. According to post-marketing studies conducted domestically, symptoms such as fatigue, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal disturbances, palpitations, facial or generalized swelling, itching, weakness, and drowsiness have also been reported, although a direct correlation with this medicine is not confirmed. When this medicine is used in conjunction with expectorants, the relief of cough might hinder the expulsion of phlegm from the bronchial tubes, increasing the risk of bronchial infection and potentially inducing bronchospasm; thus, caution is especially required when used together. Women who are pregnant, those who may become pregnant, and those who are breastfeeding should ideally avoid using this medicine, as its safety has not been adequately established.
