Relief of allergy symptoms such as allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis (rhinitis), urticaria, etc.
This medication is effective for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and pruritus. It can also be used in combination with other medications to alleviate symptoms during the treatment of eczema and dermatitis. This medication helps improve allergy symptoms and skin itching.
Adults and children aged 6 and older should take 10 mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. Patients sensitive to side effects may take 5 mg in the morning and evening. Dosage should be adjusted appropriately according to age and symptoms. For patients with renal impairment, the dosing interval should be adjusted based on renal function, and dosages should be modified according to creatinine clearance.
Children aged 6 and older should take 10 mg orally once daily before bedtime, similar to adults. Children with renal impairment should have their dosages adjusted individually based on creatinine clearance and body weight.
This medication should not be taken by individuals allergic to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives or those who have experienced hypersensitivity reactions. It should not be used in patients with severely impaired kidney function, particularly those with a creatinine clearance of less than 10 mL/min. Children under 6 years old should not take this medication, and patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic lactose metabolism disorders should also avoid it. It is advisable not to take certain medications, such as theophylline or ritonavir, concurrently while using this medication. It is prudent not to consume excessive alcohol while taking this medication. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, the elderly, patients with epilepsy, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult with a physician or pharmacist before taking this medication. This medication may exacerbate conditions where urination is impaired, so individuals with urinary issues, such as prostate enlargement or spinal cord injury, should exercise caution. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty urinating may occur, and medical consultation should be sought immediately. Various side effects including drowsiness, headache, dyspepsia, skin rash, and liver function abnormalities may occur while taking this medication, so any adverse symptoms should lead to immediate consultation with a healthcare professional. It is advisable to temporarily discontinue this medication before undergoing allergy testing, and caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery. Food may slow down the absorption rate of this medication, but it does not significantly affect its efficacy. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container to maintain quality and safety.
