Relief of peptic ulcers and gastritis (antacid effect, symptom improvement) and alleviation of constipation
This medication alleviates symptoms caused by peptic ulcers, gastritis, and excessive gastric acid, and reduces gastric acid through its antacid effect. It also helps improve symptoms of constipation. Therefore, it is effectively used for gastrointestinal disorders and constipation.
1. For constipation: Take 2 to 4 tablets per day (1 to 2 g as magnesium hydroxide) in 1 to 2 divided doses. 2. For peptic ulcers, gastritis, and excessive gastric acid: Take 2 to 5 tablets per day (1 to 2.5 g as magnesium hydroxide) in several divided doses. Adjust as appropriate based on age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients with poor kidney function as it may lead to excessive accumulation of magnesium in the body, posing a risk. It is also advisable not to administer this medication to patients with severe diarrhea, as it may worsen the condition. Patients with heart function issues should use this medication with caution. In cases of weakened heart function, high magnesium levels can be harmful to health. Patients with already elevated blood magnesium levels should use this medication cautiously and adjust the dosage or discontinue use as necessary. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal side effects like diarrhea may occur, thus it is important to monitor for them. Additionally, long-term consumption of large amounts may significantly elevate blood magnesium levels, so regular monitoring of the condition is advised. If symptoms of magnesium toxicity appear, treatment can be provided by healthcare professionals using potassium salts. This medication may interfere with the absorption of specific antibiotics, so it is recommended not to take them together. Furthermore, this medication can alter the gastrointestinal environment, affecting the absorption or excretion of other medications, hence caution is required. When taken in large quantities with milk or calcium preparations, milk-alkali syndrome may occur, so symptoms should be monitored and the medication should be discontinued if any issues arise. This medication must be stored out of reach of children and in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, ensuring the container is tightly closed. Lastly, to maintain the quality of the medication and prevent misuse, it is safest not to transfer the medication to other containers.
