Precautions

This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. However, it can cause tendon issues such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, particularly affecting the Achilles tendon, so caution is warranted. Additionally, peripheral neuropathy or central nervous system adverse effects may occur, such as seizures, dizziness, and anxiety. It should not be used in patients with myasthenia gravis due to the risk of exacerbating symptoms. If pain or inflammation or symptoms of tendon rupture occur while taking this medication, use should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. Caution should be exercised in elderly patients, those with impaired kidney function, and those taking corticosteroids as the risk of side effects may increase. This medication can cause hypersensitivity reactions, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur, administration should be stopped immediately. Serious skin reactions, liver dysfunction, blood dyscrasias, and gastrointestinal disturbances may also occur, and healthcare providers should be notified if symptoms arise. This medication is contraindicated in pregnant or nursing women, adolescents under 18 years of age, individuals with epilepsy, and patients with certain genetic lactose intolerance. There may be potential interactions with other medications, particularly when taken with antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, warfarin, or theophylline.
