For acute gonococcal urethritis, this medication 3g combined with 1g probenecid is administered as a single dose.

Precautions

This medication works by binding to specific proteins and inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, killing the bacteria. Before using this medication, patients with allergies to it or to cephalosporins, or those who have previously experienced severe allergic reactions or shock due to this medication should not be administered it. Patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics or those with a history of asthma, skin rash, or hives should use this medication with caution. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, those who are malnourished or elderly, or those with generally poor health should be closely monitored for symptoms of vitamin K deficiency. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis, should also be carefully administered this medication. This medication may rarely cause severe allergic reactions, skin conditions, blood disorders, liver or kidney issues, gastrointestinal problems, respiratory issues, or central nervous system symptoms; if such symptoms occur, administration should be immediately stopped and medical consultation sought. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria during antibiotic use, it is important to administer this medication for the required duration based on sensitivity tests. Interactions with other drugs must also be carefully monitored, especially when used with probenecid, nephrotoxic drugs, anticoagulants, oral contraceptives, or certain antibiotics, ensuring to follow the physician's instructions. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits outweigh the risks, and nursing mothers should use it cautiously as well. This medication is not recommended for infants under one month old, as its safety has not been established. Elderly patients may have reduced physiological functions, making side effects more likely, thus dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted and closely observed. Finally, this medication may affect some clinical test results, so patients need to inform their healthcare providers of its use during testing.
