This medication should not be used in certain patients. Firstly, patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients should not take it. Additionally, patients with symptoms of orthostatic hypotension may experience worsening symptoms, so it is advisable to avoid administration. Patients with severely impaired liver function should also avoid this medication due to the potential increase in blood concentration. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication. Patients with severely impaired kidney function may experience an increase in blood concentration of this medication, requiring caution. Elderly patients often have reduced kidney function, so treatment should start with a lower dose and monitor the condition. Patients taking other blood pressure-lowering medications or specific enzyme-inhibiting medications should use this medication cautiously due to a heightened risk of side effects from interactions. In particular, it is generally advised not to use this medication in conjunction with alpha-1 blockers, but if absolutely necessary, it should be administered with extreme caution. Patients with a history of urinary syncope require special caution when using this medication. Possible side effects of this medication include dizziness, lowering of blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, drowsiness, headache, digestive discomfort, and skin rash. In severe cases, transient loss of consciousness or severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical consultation sought. This medication can lower blood pressure; therefore, care should be taken to avoid overdose, and blood pressure may drop sharply when standing, necessitating caution when changing positions. Additionally, this medication is for symptomatic relief, not curative treatment, so if the anticipated effect is not achieved, other treatment options should be considered. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of dizziness or drowsiness that may lead to accidents. This medication can rarely cause a condition of prolonged erection, so if such symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. Moreover, this medication may rarely lead to an issue called intraoperative floppy iris syndrome during specific eye surgeries, so patients must inform their healthcare providers about its use before surgery. Patients with a sulfa drug allergy should be especially cautious when taking this medication. This medication may cause dangerously low blood pressure when taken in conjunction with other antihypertensives, PDE5 inhibitors, or certain antibiotics or enzyme inhibitors, so consultation with a physician is essential when combining treatments. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established for pregnant women or children under 18 years old, and therefore it should not be used by these populations. This medication is in an extended-release capsule or tablet form and should be taken whole; chewing or opening the capsule may result in improper absorption, so it must be taken according to the prescribed method. Finally, this medication should be stored in a safe place out of the reach of children, and caution should be taken as transferring it to another container may alter its quality.
