This medicine is used to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It is particularly effective in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke, and is also effective in patients after vascular interventions or with chronic stable angina. It helps reduce the risk of cardiac-related events in patients with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for coronary heart disease. For adults diagnosed with coronary heart disease, it contributes to a reduced risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, fatal and non-fatal stroke, vascular interventions, hospitalization due to congestive heart failure, and angina. It also helps lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels and increase HDL cholesterol levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. It is used as a dietary supplement to help regulate cholesterol levels in children with familial hypercholesterolemia.

Precautions

This medication may cause unusual symptoms in the muscles, so if muscle pain or weakness occurs, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. There is a risk of serious muscle damage known as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, particularly after severe infections, hypotension, or major surgeries. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to it, have liver disease, muscle disease, are pregnant, or breastfeeding. Children, especially those under 10 years of age, should not take this medication. Patients with poor liver function or those who consume alcohol excessively should take this medication with caution and have regular liver function tests. This medication is metabolized in the liver; therefore, using it in conjunction with certain antibiotics, antifungals, or HIV treatments may increase drug concentration and risk of side effects. Grapefruit juice, in particular, can increase blood concentration of this drug, so it should not be consumed excessively. While taking this medication, inform your doctor immediately if symptoms such as muscle pain, fatigue, or fever occur, and blood tests may be necessary to check for muscle damage. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication and should use effective contraception while on it. Nursing mothers should also avoid taking this medication for safety. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function are at higher risk of muscle damage when taking this medication and should be particularly cautious. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so you should visit a medical institution immediately for treatment according to symptoms. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container.
