View approved original text

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

2mL (200 IU) of this medication is used as needed to maintain the patency of intravascular catheters or cannulas or at intervals of 4 to 8 hours.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have an allergy or a history of hypersensitivity to the components. There is a risk of decreased platelet count, so patients who use it repeatedly over a long period should have their platelet levels checked. This medication is intended for maintaining the patency of intravascular catheters or cannulas and is not used as an anticoagulant treatment. It is not intended for improving systemic circulation. If thrombocytopenia or thrombosis occurs, use should be discontinued immediately. Caution is advised as systemic anticoagulant effects may appear with repeated use. Products containing benzyl alcohol can cause life-threatening respiratory problems, especially in premature infants. Bleeding may occur during the use of this medication, and in severe cases, it may be life-threatening, so attention should be paid to symptoms of bleeding. Avoid the use of products containing benzyl alcohol in newborns and premature infants. Rarely, this medication can cause side effects such as thrombocytopenia, thrombosis, and hypersensitivity reactions. Hypersensitivity reactions may include urticaria, conjunctivitis, rhinitis, asthma, dyspnea, depression, warmth sensation, and chills; notify healthcare professionals if any abnormal symptoms occur. Long-term use may lead to osteoporosis, so caution is advised. This medication can affect blood test results, so it should be removed before taking blood samples. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia can lead to serious thrombosis due to immune reactions, so platelet levels should be regularly checked, and use should be discontinued immediately if abnormalities arise. If there is a sudden drop in platelet count or recurrence of thrombosis, consult a physician without fail. This medication can cause hypersensitivity reactions such as chills, fever, urticaria, and anaphylaxis, so caution is necessary. There is a risk of hyperkalemia, so patients with diabetes, renal failure, etc., should frequently check their potassium levels. The effectiveness of this medication may increase when used with platelet aggregation inhibitors, so caution is needed in combination. The safety of use during pregnancy has not been established, but it is said to pose minimal risks. This medication is not excreted in breast milk, allowing use during breastfeeding. Before use, visually check for any foreign substances or discoloration in the solution, and administer under aseptic conditions. After opening, use immediately and dispose of any remaining medication.
