This medication is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's dementia symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

As Donepezil Hydrochloride, administer 5 mg once daily before bedtime. For 4 to 6 weeks, the 5 mg dosage should be given. After evaluating clinical responses during this period, the dose may be increased up to 10 mg. When increasing to 10 mg per day, administer with caution regarding gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Underweight elderly women should not exceed 5 mg per day.

Child dose

No experience of use in children.

Precautions

This medication contains Donepezil Hydrochloride as its active ingredient and is used to treat symptoms of Alzheimer's dementia. This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, individuals allergic to this medication or its components, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women should avoid use. Patients with heart diseases, particularly those with bradycardia or heart conduction disorders, should use this medication with caution as it may slow the heart rate or cause arrhythmias. Those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with a history of peptic ulcers should carefully monitor for gastrointestinal symptoms while using this medication, as it may increase gastric acid secretion and exacerbate ulcer symptoms. Patients with a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease should also be cautious while using this medication, as it may cause bronchial muscle contraction or increase mucus secretion, worsening symptoms. Patients with extrapyramidal disorders such as Parkinson's disease should be cautiously administered this medication as it may worsen symptoms. This medication contains Yellow No. 5, so those with a history of allergy to this ingredient should take care. Various adverse reactions may occur during the use of this medication. Cardiac-related issues such as syncope, bradycardia, heart block, myocardial infarction have been reported, while gastrointestinal problems may include peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc. Serious side effects such as liver dysfunction, seizures, extrapyramidal symptoms, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, rhabdomyolysis, respiratory distress, acute pancreatitis, acute renal failure, and sudden death may also occur. Psychiatric-related side effects may include hallucinations, agitation, aggressive behavior, anxiety, insomnia, depression, and confusion. Gastrointestinal side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, while skin rashes or itching may also occur. This medication may affect the ability to drive or operate machinery; caution is advised, especially during the initial treatment or when increasing the dose, as dizziness or muscle cramps may occur. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication, and if absolutely necessary, consultation with a professional should be sought before use. This medication may interact with other drugs, especially those affecting CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 enzymes or medications affecting heart conduction, so caution is needed when used together. In case of overdose, symptoms of cholinergic poisoning such as nausea, vomiting, bradycardia, and respiratory depression may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought for appropriate treatment. This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture. A storage temperature between 1 degree to 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature is advisable.
