Dosage and Administration

Precautions

This medication is primarily used as an antidepressant for the treatment of depression. The use of this medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, especially in young people aged 18 to 24, therefore, the doctor must carefully consider the necessity and risks of the treatment. This medication is not approved for use in children and adolescents and should not be administered to children under 18 years of age. During treatment, careful observation for any abnormal changes in behavior such as suicidal thoughts or actions, aggression, or anger is necessary. Family members or guardians should also closely monitor the patient and consult a doctor immediately if any unusual symptoms arise. This medication may cause persistent erections in about one-third of patients, and in such cases, the medication should be stopped immediately and a doctor should be consulted. It should not be used in individuals with allergies to this medication or its components, certain heart conditions, alcohol dependence, or those currently taking certain medications. Particularly, when taken with other psychiatric medications known as MAO inhibitors, serious side effects may occur; therefore, MAO inhibitors should not be used for 14 days before or after taking this medication. Patients with heart disease, glaucoma, epilepsy, bipolar disorder, or impaired kidney or liver function should use this medication with caution and have their condition regularly checked according to doctor's instructions. This medication may cause drowsiness or decreased concentration; therefore, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. Additionally, this medication can cause various side effects including reduced blood cell count, allergic reactions, blood pressure changes, indigestion, and liver dysfunction; any unusual symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. Abruptly stopping this medication may result in withdrawal symptoms such as headache, fatigue, anxiety, and sleep disturbances, so it is recommended to taper off the dosage under a doctor's guidance. When combined with other medications, there may be an increased risk of side effects due to drug interactions; therefore, it is essential to inform the doctor of all medications being taken. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult thoroughly with their doctor before using this medication, and if breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid taking this medication or to discontinue breastfeeding if possible. Elderly patients may have diminished bodily functions and should use this medication with caution, possibly reducing the dose. Overdose of this medication may cause drowsiness, vomiting, cardiac irregularities, convulsions, and immediate medical attention should be sought in case of an overdose. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and should not be transferred to another container for safety.
