I started to worry when my child suddenly developed a runny nose and cough, so I decided to visit a pediatrician. At first, I thought it was just a simple cold, but when the coughing continued at night and the runny nose worsened, I thought it would be a good idea to get checked out. My child is a bit scared of hospitals, so I was worried about them getting anxious before the exam. During the visit, we discussed when the symptoms started and whether there had been a fever. After examining my child's breathing and throat, I received explanations about the current symptoms. Fortunately, it didn't seem to be severe inflammation and it looked like symptoms that can occur early in a cold. I also received guidance on what to watch for when my child coughs. I mentioned my concern that my child doesn’t take medicine well, and the doctor prescribed a syrup that’s generally easier for kids to take, explaining how to administer it in detail. Additionally, I learned that gently managing nasal congestion at home can be helpful. We also talked about how to respond if a fever rises, which made me feel a bit more at ease. Above all, the way the doctor spoke gently to make sure my child didn't get nervous helped keep the atmosphere of the visit relatively comfortable. Getting to check my child's condition and hear the management methods was a relief from a parent's perspective.
