The bladder is a hollow muscular organ responsible for storing and expelling urine. Its main functions are to store and release urine. When bladder health deteriorates, various conditions such as neurogenic bladder, bladder fistula, bladder rupture, bladder diverticulum, cystitis, bladder stones, and bladder cancer can occur.

Among the foods we frequently eat, some stimulate the bladder while others soothe it. Generally, alcohol, citrus fruits, coffee, and artificial sweeteners are considered bladder-stimulating foods. In relation to this, based on information from the U.S. Urological Foundation (Urology Care Foundation), we looked into foods that are good for bladder health.

Potatoes and sweet potatoes = Potatoes and sweet potatoes are considered bladder-friendly foods. In particular, they are more effective when the temperature drops. Potatoes contain protein, carbohydrates, B vitamins, C, E, zinc, folate, and potassium, while sweet potatoes contain carbohydrates, beta-carotene, vitamin A, B, C, E, zinc, folate, and potassium, among various nutrients.

 

Pear = Pears are rich in dietary fiber. Pears are low in calories, making them a good fruit for people who are obese. Pears contain various nutrients such as vitamins, potassium, calcium, and folate.

 

Eggs, which contain protein and various nutrients, are considered one of the foods that place minimal burden on the bladder.

 

Bananas are tropical fruits that are easily available throughout the year. They can be enjoyed as a snack, added as a topping to cereal, or blended into smoothies to enhance flavor. Bananas contain beta-carotene, vitamins, potassium, and calcium.

 

Nuts = almonds, cashews, walnuts, etc. Nuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and protein, which improve overall health including the bladder.

 

Green beans, also called shell beans, snap beans, or stem beans, refer to vegetables made from long bean pods cooked and eaten as they are. A serving of green beans contains only 31 calories. Green beans are rich in vitamins A and B, minerals, and dietary fiber.

 

Lean meat = low-fat beef, pork, chicken, fish, and other foods that are almost free of fat and rich in protein do not irritate the bladder.

 

Winter pumpkin = Winter pumpkin is harvested in summer, and it is a type of gourd plant with seeds filled inside the fruit and a hard shell. It has the characteristic of being able to be stored during winter. Winter pumpkin contains vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, and minerals.

Whole grains = brown rice, barley, oats, whole wheat, quinoa, etc. Whole grains have a low glycemic index and are rich in various nutrients, which help maintain bladder health.
