A review of treatment for a pus-filled sore on the finger at Seoul Min & Jeong Clinic.

Due to the nature of my job, I use my hands a lot in my daily life.

At that time, the weather was dry and we often had to work with our bare hands.

It wasn't an ingrown nail, but the nail grew by digging into the flesh, so the flesh next to the nail would swell and there would be a lot of nail flakes.

Every time that happens, the stinging and painful pain usually goes away in 2-3 days.

My finger started to swell rapidly, pus started to form, and I even felt feverish.

​My nails tend to get a lot of calluses because the tips of my nails are at the bottom.

The hospital I went to was Min & Jeong Clinic (dermatology department).

 

It is very close to Jonggak Station, so it is easily accessible.

 

Also, the consultation time is generous.

It was especially convenient to go after work because it was open until 8pm.

Usually, many hospitals close at 1 o'clock on Saturdays.

This place is open until 3pm, so it's good to go on Saturdays when you can't go during the week.

 

The director looked at it and said it was periosteitis.

I didn't know what it was at first

The correct name for raw hand pain, raw hand pain, and nail inflammation is paronychia.

It is said that a virus enters the wound on the fingernails or toenails, causing inflammation and swelling.

The most common symptom of paronychia is red pus and swelling around the nail, as in my case.

 

They said they would first treat the pus and I was given anesthesia.

The anesthetic injection is given in the finger.

I thought the injection would be really painful, but my entire finger was already sore from the pus, so the anesthesia injection was more bearable than I thought.

After anesthesia, it didn't hurt much when they drained the pus with a needle, just a slight stinging sensation.

 

Of course, the director treated me directly.

He patted me, saying, "It'll hurt while you're getting treatment, and there's a lot of pus coming out."

He also advised me to never open the gasket again and to not get my hands wet until the treatment was over.

They wrapped the wound with gauze and taped it, and prescribed some medicine.

 

They said it would hurt when the anesthesia wore off, but it only took 3-4 hours for it to wear off, and even after that, it didn't hurt much. (Of course, it did hurt when they pressed on it.)

 

And I visited again four days later.

The director pressed my hand and said that it was healing well as there was no more pus coming out.

Even then, it was painful when pressed.

The scabs that form during the process may fall off on their own, or you can remove them by checking the condition.

I didn't touch it because I was told to just leave it alone.

The dead skin around it, which looks like white scales, falls off on its own.

 

(I couldn't cut my nails until they got better because it hurt when I touched themㅠㅠ)

 

During that process, the skin inside my finger began to peel off.

I already have psoriasis on my hands, so I was worried that it might have gotten worse, but the hospital explained that it was a natural phenomenon.

As the inflammation subsides, the dead skin cells on the damaged surface fall off, similar to the peeling of skin when exposed to sunlight, which reassured me.

He also said that the skin will recover naturally, so I shouldn't try to remove it on purpose.

 

These days, there are many dermatology clinics that focus on surgical procedures.

I really liked that Min & Jeong Dermatology Clinic was very thorough in their skin care.

I was impressed that they examined me thoroughly and did not think of skin treatment as a cost-effective treatment!

Also, when I went for my second appointment, I liked that they didn't just give me a cursory look because it was my second time, but also looked at me carefully for a long time.

 

Since there are so many types of skin diseases in dermatology, each doctor's diagnosis is very different.

There are many dermatologists who focus on procedures.

I tend to visit several places before making a decision.

I was so satisfied with the thorough skin care provided by Min & Jeong Clinic that I plan to visit this clinic in the future when I need an accurate and quick diagnosis.

 

Finally, the nail infection was successfully treated and now my hands are clean without any pus or swelling.

This treatment taught me the lesson that I should be careful with my fingernails from now on, as they can fill with pus even if I don't bite them properly due to the shape of my fingernails!
