Are there no side effects or issues with LASIK and LASEK?

I have worn glasses my entire life until I turned 40, but lately I feel like presbyopia is setting in, which makes me a bit worried. For now, I can manage without much discomfort, but I think it will become inconvenient if I need reading glasses later on. When I need a magnifier, I prefer to switch between glasses as needed or use a single pair of glasses rather than multifocal lenses.

So, I'm thinking about maybe having the surgery...

Is it okay to have LASIK or LASEK surgery at my current age? Also, I wonder if people who had no side effects after the surgery continue to be fine as they get older.
