Please recommend an effective laxative for severe constipation.

My mother has severe constipation. She says it's difficult to have a bowel movement without medication. Psyllium husk also doesn't seem to have much effect. She has tried various products but none worked. She also eats a lot of vegetables. The constipation is causing her significant stress. Recently, she has been using Gadbium and having bowel movements, but she would like a recommendation for other medications that she feels are more effective.
