My lower left abdomen is as hard as a rock; is this a problem?

It's not very uncomfortable, but I feel a hard, stone-like lump in my lower left abdomen, and I wonder what it is. I can feel it when lying down. Are there others like me? I'm unsure which department to go to if I visit a hospital. I'm a bit scared. Which department should I go to?
