My levator scapulae pain keeps throbbing. Why is that?

Lately, I've been experiencing a constant throbbing, dull pain in my levator scapulae. I'm not sure if it's because I spend so much time sitting at the computer, or if it's stress. The pain gets worse when I turn my head or move my shoulders. I'm wondering if it's simply muscle pain or if I need to seek medical attention.
Could stretching or steaming help?
