I have pain from my lower back to my legs. Why is this happening?

I've been having pain in my lower back, and it seems to be radiating down my legs. Could it be a herniated disc? I've only had pain in my lower back, but it seems to be getting worse.
If it goes down from my waist to my leg, it seems to be a herniated disc... I'm worried. If it's a herniated disc, I should get a CT scan, right? What kind of tests should I get?
